Nightmare dimension: the complete survival guide

Horror-film suburbia where the eyeballs fly, the ghosts phase through your towers, and every habit Steamcrust taught you gets questioned. The complete Act II survival doctrine.

Act II doesn't just add enemies — it changes the rules underneath you. Organic targets resist what mechanical ones feared, flyers skip your ground game, and the Horror faction punishes lazy build recycling harder than anything in the campaign.

The new rulebook

Nightmare's Horror faction inverts Steamcrust's math. Where crustacean armor gated kinetic damage, organic horrors resist conventional types and demand toxic stacking and incendiary pressure. Flying units appear from mission 15 and never leave — anti-air stops being a specialty pick and becomes standard doctrine. And the phase-immune enemies (Cactus Ghost Flats is the warning label) flatly ignore damage types that don't match their phase state. Rebuild your assumptions before the dimension rebuilds your grid.

Horror faction waves attacking defenses

Mission-by-mission threats

Suburbia Breach teaches resists gently. Eyeball Avenue forces anti-air. The Mortis Mall is a gift — overlapping chokepoints that make defense feel illegal. Graveyard Shift introduces surge economics where the cloning bay becomes a second resource bar. Cactus Ghost Flats punishes single-type builds, Gunclam Gulch punishes exposed heroes, and the Warped Fairground punishes planning itself with rotating lane logic. Each mission is a lesson; skip one and the next grades it for you.

Field note

Horror faction units got resistance buffs in the 1.34 rebalance — old guides recommending pure-kinetic Nightmare builds are pre-patch. Toxic and incendiary are the current answers.

The road to the shark

Missions 21-25 accelerate toward the finale: Squid Cycle Speedway tests slow-field coverage against burst-speed waves, Wartoise Wastes demands Saboteur armor-strips, and Jaws of the Sky is the payoff — the flying zombie shark fight the whole act teaches toward. The Overmind Rift then stacks both factions on one grid, which is the campaign's honest final exam: every damage type, every role, every habit. Zero Hour is the defense that makes it count. See the mission board for the full sequence and linked guides per level.

Steamcrust teaches you tower defense. Nightmare teaches you that you were playing on easy mode.

Key takeaways

Short on time? This is the manual condensed to a sticky note for your monitor.

  • Organic Horror units demand toxic and incendiary, not kinetic
  • Anti-air becomes mandatory from Eyeball Avenue onward
  • Phase-immune enemies require damage-type matching, not upgrades
  • Missions 21-25 build deliberately toward the shark fight
  • The Overmind Rift stacks both factions — the campaign's final exam

Asked after this manual

The questions commanders send the desk after reading this guide.

Different armor math — organic targets resist the conventional types that cracked crustacean shells. Rebuild around toxic/incendiary and add anti-air coverage.

The Overmind Rift by community consensus — mixed factions invalidate single-type builds and the lane pressure never dips. Bring a balanced grid and your A-squad.

Before Eyeball Avenue — you need anti-air options before the flyers arrive, not after they've demonstrated why.
